Please arrive 15 minutes early to your first appointment.
I will ask you to fill out a confidential health history form,
and we will then spend a few minutes discussing why you have
come for massage therapy, your treatment goals, and the best
way to reach your goals.
We will also spend a few minutes doing an assessment, which
simply allows me to see how your body responds to certain
movements or postures.
This whole process allows me to plan a treatment that will
be both safe and effective, and that will accomplish your
treatment goals as efficiently as possible.
If your goal is relaxation, I will still ask you to complete
the health history form and to answer a few questions, to
make sure I give you a safe and satisfying treatment.
I will discuss my proposed treatment plan with you, answer
any questions you may have about it, and get your consent
to proceed with it before we begin the massage. Even if you
give your consent, you can change or stop the treatment at
any time.
It is important for you to let me know during the treatment
if you are unhappy with any aspect of the massage. Then we
can decide together how to change the treatment so that it
is comfortable and appropriate for you.
The massage treatment will take place in the rest of the
time remaining after the brief initial interview. I will leave
the room to give you privacy while you change into your clothes
for Thai massage or while you get on the massage table, and
I will get your permission before coming back in the room.
During a Thai massage, you will be fully clothed in your own
comfortable, stretchy clothes. During a massage on the heated
massage table, you will always be covered by sheets and blankets
except for the part of your body that I am actually working
on. For this type of massage, you may decide to remove all
your clothing before getting on the table, to keep your undergarments
on, or to stay fully clothed under the covers. The choice
is completely yours, and the massage will be effective as
long as you are comfortable with your choice. You should never
feel pressured to wear more or less than is right for you
during a massage.
After the treatment I will leave the room again to give you
privacy to get dressed. When you are ready, we will spend
a few minutes discussing the treatment and reviewing any self-care
you can do to help achieve your health goals.
